This tour is designed to take you into a time machine and take you back more than 600 years; to a Central America that only a few were privileged to experience. More than a tour, it is a journey into the lives of the Embera Indians. They are a proud people, who have been able to maintain their traditions and lifestyle as it was before the Spanish colonized the region. This morning we head to Chagres National Park located 1:15 hours drive from Panama City. Upon arrival, we will board the famous “piraguas or canoes” which are traditional Embera boats, carved in wood from a single tree trunk.
At the end of the trip we will see the village “Emberá Querá” which means Embera Perfume, where our cordial hosts will be waiting for us.
From this moment on, we will enjoy their music, dances, learn about their culture, traditions and tour the village to visit their usual residences and the “Chaman” or healer of the tribe, will talk to us about the healing power of the plants of the jungle. At lunch time, we will taste fish (product of the day’s catch), fried green plantain and fruits.
The Emberá are excellent artisans, detailed and dedicated and if we wish to carry the memory on our skin, a natural “tattoo” is our option. The indigenous people will paint it with a black ink made from the “Jagua”, the seed of a local palm tree.
