Visit to Indigenous Communities

This tour is designed to take you into a time machine and take you back more than 600 years; to a Central America that only a few were privileged to experience. More than a tour, it is a journey into the lives of the Embera Indians. They are a proud people, who have been able to maintain their traditions and lifestyle as it was before the Spanish colonized the region. This morning we head to Chagres National Park located 1:15 hours drive from Panama City. Upon arrival, we will board the famous “piraguas or canoes” which are traditional Embera boats, carved in wood from a single tree trunk.

At the end of the trip we will see the village “Emberá Querá” which means Embera Perfume, where our cordial hosts will be waiting for us.

From this moment on, we will enjoy their music, dances, learn about their culture, traditions and tour the village to visit their usual residences and the “Chaman” or healer of the tribe, will talk to us about the healing power of the plants of the jungle. At lunch time, we will taste fish (product of the day’s catch), fried green plantain and fruits.

The Emberá are excellent artisans, detailed and dedicated and if we wish to carry the memory on our skin, a natural “tattoo” is our option. The indigenous people will paint it with a black ink made from the “Jagua”, the seed of a local palm tree.

Anton Valley, Cocle

Come and discover with us what the Valley has to offer! The impressive volcanic landscapes of this beautiful Cocle town, surrounded by natural wealth, cultural history and an incredible biodiversity. Heading west towards the interior of the Republic about 180 kilometers by land, is the beautiful city of Anton, home of the famous Valley of the same name, this offers a vast variety of flora and fauna and also a first hand view of nature and temperate rainforest, giving us a little different touch of what can be experienced at the level of forests.

During our tour, we will visit:

The Visitor’s Center: it has exhibits on the geology, culture and biodiversity of El Valle. We can also find a theater that offers an immersive audiovisual experience, touch screens, artifacts and a model where you can see the unique location of the village inside what was once the crater of a volcano.

Chorro el Macho: One of the most emblematic tourist attractions in the Valley, which takes you on a beautiful trail on suspension bridges through the thick jungle, to finish, seeing the most famous waterfall in the valley region, with more than 35 meters high.

La Piedra Pintada: These are basically a set of designs carved in stone that come from the pre-Columbian age and still do not have an exact translation or a specific meaning.

Handicrafts Market: This is also known as the supply market, giving us access not only to local handicrafts but also to a series of vegetables, legumes and fruits that come directly from the producer. At this point you can feel free to experience the surroundings and get lunch from one of the restaurants in the area.

Baru Volcano
Volcán Barú, the dormant volcano south of the Continental Divide, is one of the only places in the world where you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea at the same time with the naked eye. Join us for the steep and rugged climb by 4×4 jeep. You will reach the summit of the dormant volcano as you drive up the volcano’s maintenance road. From the summit, you will get a breathtaking panoramic view of both coasts of Panama, the Pacific and the Caribbean for a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to witness the sunrise of a volcano from the highest point in Panama. The 4×4 Jeep is a great time saver, only taking approximately 2 hours to reach the summit. It is an extremely rugged off-road experience at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, but the Jeep offers comfortable seating and closed windows, protecting you from the cold. However, the ride is not recommended for people who are pregnant, have back problems or are prone to motion sickness. At the top, you can wait (drinking hot coffee with the vehicle’s hot heater) until the sun makes its first appearance.
